Solid Food!

We finally started solid foods with Bryce! He had his first taste of peas and he LOOOOVED it! The rice feedings were well worth the effort because he had almost no trouble coordinating his tongue and the food to be able to swallow in stead of spitting it back out. AWESOME! Hopefully this will help him sleep better at night. :S Aunt Liz was kind enough to give us the peas and take pictures. I was way too occupied with keeping Bryce's hands out of his food and away from the spoon. What a little booger! Can't wait to see what other foods he likes. I hope he likes green beans. That was the only food Derek didn't like as a baby. Lol.

Emeri is only a couple inches longer than Derek. She just turned 9 months and he's a little over 6 months. Dang! He's almost 20 lbs and she can't be 15 yet. Such sweeties!

The BIG Announcement

So by now, we've announced it to family and we can finally put it on the blog! I'm preg...pregna....oh goodness... I'm expecting. It still feels weird to say the "p" word. I mean, come on! I just did this! Before you ask, nope, we were not trying to have a baby. In fact, we were preventing. I guess we're just one of the 3%, huh? Lol. That said however, we are beyond thrilled. I'm actually super excited about delivery this time around. That is a HUGE load off my mind and I'm so glad to be in such good hands with my OB and his staff. I had my 8 week appointment today and got some odd glances for carrying a 6 month old into an OB's office. Jackie, the nurse, teased me good-naturedly and Dr. MacDonald told me he had a feeling that he'd be seeing me soon. Wow, guess everyone knew I was...pregnant... but me. Aunt Jenn and Beth even asked me Easter Sunday if I was pregnant. At that point, I didn't know. It was the day after the mud run, I still felt super sore and the very last thing I wanted to think about was being pregnant (I'm always achy). We decided to do a fun announcement General Conference weekend since we were going to be in Prosper and had invited my grandparents. Papa still wasn't feeling well from the chemo (prayers for them would be much appreciated!) so they weren't able to make it. I decided I'd wait til the ultrasound to tell Gamm and Papa. We were legitimately worried that it was twins and figured it would be a cute reveal to Gamm (who had a set of twins) if it was. WHEW! Imagine my relief when I saw only one little bean on the screen! We were worried it was twins because I used three pregnancy tests and all of them were positive before I could even lay them on the ground. Pregnancy tests test your HCG levels (pregnancy hormone) and twins produce twice as much HCG. Scary! We'd have been thrilled if it was twins, but I'm thrilled that it's not. ;)

Derek Heath, Bug Hunter

Derek found a caterpillar hunter beetle outside today and I took the opportunity to teach him about bug hunting. It was so much fun to pass on bug hunting lore and knowledge to the next generation. ;) Derek had a great time and the beetle was a great sport. We only spent about 5 minutes with it before we let him "go back to his family." All Derek's idea. I'm so proud!

Perot Museum

We went to the Perot museum today! What a blast! It's a MASSIVE museum with all kinds of exhibits and activities for people of all ages. Lia, Austin, our kids and I spent most of the morning and afternoon just wandering the halls and being amazed and delighted by pretty much everything we saw. Our first stop was the solar system, then we checked out the dinosaurs (Oh MY GOSH! COOL!) and the birds and a few other exhibits before we found the children's play area. The boys had a blast playing with flowers, a water table, a construction zone and a farmer's market especially. When we walked in, the museum employee at watching the door told me that the play area was for kids 5 and under, but as long as my kid (Derek) didn't climb on the outside of the play equipment, he should be fine. I replied with the usual, "He's only three" and got the usual look of disbelief and suspicion. I'm used to it now. ;) Bryce and Emeri checked out the infant play area and made some new friends. I thought that was really neat. The last exhibit we saw was the sports exhibit. It was so neat! There was a huge screen all along one wall (see video at the bottom) where you could race a T. Rex, cheetah, football player or Olympic track star. The T. Rex was by far the most popular with the kids. The very last thing we did before we left was check out a meet-and-greet with animals brought by the Dallas Zoo. Unfortunately, trying to keep Bryce quiet and keep Derek corralled was a little more than I could handle at that point. Derek even got up and dashed to the very front of the room to check out an armadillo up close. Ugh, kid. Aside from that though, I can't wait to go back again!

The boys loved playing with this RGB light producer. You turned the knobs they're playing with and make different percentages of red, green and blue light combos. Pretty cool!

It's the little things in life, like rotating a wheel to lift a ball up to roll across a frame and drop down with a satisfying thunk, that makes little boys happy (and would've entertained them all day).

When the boys saw this T. Rex skeleton, they started yelling, "Cool! Wow! Look, a T. Rex!" A nearby volunteer said they were the cutest little kids. Independent confirmation of what I always say. ;)
